  • Register for and pass the state exam
  • Submit your application
  • Stay compliant and renew your license

Let’s get started!

#1: Prepare for the Nebraska Insurance Agent License State Exam

While Nebraska does not require a pre-licensing course, we highly recommend you take an All-Lines Training Nebraska Insurance Exam Prep Course so you’ll be fully prepared to ace the state exam. A quality exam prep course greatly increases your chances of passing on the first attempt.

Nebraska offers several different license options for agents. The state provides licenses such as Property, Casualty, Property & Casualty, Life, and Accident & Health, so make sure you purchase the exam prep course that matches the license you’re interested in.

Many agents choose to obtain both Property and Casualty licenses because they allow them to sell a wider range of insurance products and increase their income potential.

Every All-Lines course has been rigorously prepared and is regularly updated. Our online classroom allows you to:

  • Print reference materials
  • Take practice tests
  • Create your own quizzes and flashcards to focus on challenging topics
  • View exam readiness reporting

Once you’re consistently scoring 90% on your practice tests and quizzes, it’s time to schedule your state exam.

#2: Register for and Pass the Nebraska Insurance Exam

When you’re ready to take the exam, register through PSI, the official testing provider for Nebraska insurance licensing exams.

Be sure to register for the exam that corresponds to your chosen license type.

Nebraska insurance exams are multiple-choice and require a score of 70% or higher to pass.

Exams can be taken:

  • At a PSI testing center
  • Online through remote proctoring

You may retake the exam if necessary, and there is no limit on the number of attempts.

Detailed information on PSI’s testing policies, procedures, and scoring methods are available in the PSI Candidate Handbook.

#3: Submit Application for Your Nebraska Agent License

After passing your exam, you must apply for your insurance license through the National Insurance Producer Registry (NIPR).

Before applying, allow 2–3 days for your exam results to be transmitted to the Nebraska Department of Insurance.

Once your application is submitted:

  • The Department of Insurance typically processes applications within 3–5 business days.
  • Once approved, you can download or print your license through NIPR.

Make sure you apply for the same line of authority that you tested for.

#4: Complete Nebraska’s Insurance Continuing Education and License Renewal Requirements

Nebraska insurance agents must complete 24 hours of continuing education (CE) every two years, including 3 hours of ethics training.

Additional training may be required depending on the products you sell, such as: flood insurance training for P&C producers

You can renew your license through NIPR, and the renewal window opens 90 days before your license expiration date.

Additional Information for Nebraska Insurance Agents

Insurance agent and producer license reciprocity refers to a mutual agreement between states that allows an agent licensed in their home state to apply for a license in another state without taking another exam.

To qualify for reciprocity:

  • Your home state license must be active and in good standing
  • The license must cover the same lines of authority you are applying for
  • You must apply and pay the required licensing fees through NIPR

Holding licenses in multiple states allows you to sell insurance across state lines, expanding your client base and increasing income potential.
